To Granada
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
On behalf of the HEPPA Scientific Committee it is a great pleasure of the local organizing committee (LOC) to invite you to the 3rd HEPPA Workshop (HEPPA 2011) that will take place in Granada from 9-11 May 2011. After the first meeting in Helsinki and the second one in Boulder, it returns now to Europe. We are very happy to host this important workshop and will do our best to create the ideal conditions for making the best science and experience unforgettable memories.
Granada is located at the foot of Sierra Nevada, between the shores of the Mediterranean and the Andalusian hinterland. With more than one thousand years of recorded history, Granada enjoys one of Spain's most important cultural and architectural patrimonies. Besides the Alhambra, and the historical Moorish Albaicín quarter, both designated as World Heritage by the UNESCO, Granada boasts a Renaissance cathedral and many other architectural monuments of the first magnitude. Granada also has a very lively city, with a University with around 70 thousand students. The city of poet García Lorca offers a lively cultural life, with many activities all year round. Not to mention its rich and diverse gastronomy, where the "tapas" become an art.
Of course, the primary reason for your visit is the science, and the opportunity to meet colleagues and friends from around the world. In that sense, we believe Granada offers a special atmosphere for achieving our professional objectives. The brand-new Abades Nevada Palace Hotel, with its avant-garde architecture and modern facilities offers us a very convenient venue for the workshop. It is very close to our home Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (5 min walk), to the City Center (25-30 min walk), and it also has spectacular views over the Alhambra and Sierra Nevada.
We are sure that the enthusiasm and hospitality of Andalusian people will stimulate our workshop and make your visit an unforgettable event.
Welcome to Granada!
Manuel López Puertas
